Commentary- Ethical Leadership Making the Hard Decisions for Alamogordo, Sharon McDonald

Dear Residents of Alamogordo,

As a proud board member of KALHRadio.org, and someone deeply invested in our community’s technological, journalistic, and political landscape, I am excited to endorse Sharon McDonald for Mayor in the November 4, 2025, election. My background as a code writer, partner at Code Weavers, dark web journalist, world explorer, libertarian politician, and father has given me a unique perspective on what it takes to foster innovation, transparency, and progress in a place like Alamogordo New Mexico and my secondary home of Mexico. I’ve seen firsthand how strong leadership can bridge divides and empower residents, and Sharon embodies that spirit.

Sharon McDonald has proven herself as an effective and compassionate leader during her time as District 5 City Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem. She has championed capital improvement projects that enhance our infrastructure, from road repairs to community revitalization efforts that make our neighborhoods safer and more vibrant. Her collaborative approach—working with diverse stakeholders on projects like the Dudley School, the Miami Street Experience at the Tularosa Basin Museum, including tech-savvy innovator projects such as support for the Inkwell Project and the small business incubator by Alamogordo MainStreet to grassroots advocacy; her efforts align perfectly with my own values of ethical governance and inclusive decision-making,

At recent forums, like the one hosted by the Alamogordo Daily News, Sharon articulated a clear vision for addressing key issues such as affordable housing, public safety, and economic development ans an understanding of municipal budgets and ethical governance, all the while promoting Alamogordo’s potential as a hub for cultural arts and modern workforce opportunities.

In an era where technology and transparency are crucial, Sharon stands out for her commitment to open processes that engage all voices, including younger generations and tech enthusiasts like myself.

She’s not afraid to tackle challenges head-on and make difficult choices that may not be popular but are necessary for the long-term, whether it’s water infrastructure in our drought-prone region or building partnerships that leverage Holloman Air Force Base’s influence for community benefit. Her endorsements from figures like former Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima and many local residents reflect her ability to unite people across lines.

Alamogordo deserves a mayor who will drive us forward with integrity and innovation. Sharon McDonald is that leader.

I urge you to put partisanship aside and vote for the most passionate and ethical candidate in the mayoral race. No one has worked harder for the position of Alamogordo's mayor in decades. A vote for Sharon McDonald on November 4th is a vote for ethics reform and a bright future. Join me in supporting a brighter, more connected future for our city.

Sincerely,

Steven Edwards
