In Memory of Danny Rae Baker

Danny Rae Baker, 75 passed away on September 2, 2025 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on October 6,1949 in Detroit, Michigan to Archie and Catherine Esch Baker.

Danny and his brother spent their childhood in Detroit, and then settled in El Paso,Texas. In 1957 their father passed away in a car accident, Catherine Baker then married Douglas Edwards in El Paso. Danny attended Austin High School in El Paso.

His first job was helping at the B & B Trailer Park which was owned by Douglas. He was a part of the El Paso Sheriff Reserve and National Jeep Search and Rescue Association. Danny worked for many companies including Co-op disposal, El Paso Natural Gas, then as a heavy equipment operator for Craig and Onyx Construction. The job that Danny loved the most was when he was Camp Host for several parks in the Cloudcroft and Ruidoso area.

Danny was a simple man, with a bigger than life heart for his family and friends. Danny would be trouble for anyone who would come against or hurt the people he loved. Danny wasn't a I love you person, but there wasn't a person who did not know that he loved them by his phone calls checking in, and the way he fought for those he loved. Danny was very organized and levelheaded especially when hard times would come. Danny was a true outdoorsman, enjoyed camping, riding horses, fishing and hunting. Danny will be remembered for his smile, willingness to help anyone, and for his many stories of growing up in a crazy family

Danny was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Elenore Baker, and his father, Archie Baker

Survivors include his brother, Jim Baker (Mona) of Mayhill, NM; sister, Ima Jean Simmons of Clarksville, TN; brother, H. Douglas Edwards Jr. (Debbie) of Las Vegas, NV; niece, Lorie Hernandez (Santiago) of La Luz, NM; niece Susan Baker (Gary) of Mayhill, NM; nephew Laremy Simmons (Jesika) of Oahu, HI; nephew Cameron Simmons ( Jordan) of Clovis,NM; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

The celebration of his life will be held at the Mayhill Baptist Church, Monday, September 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Pete McMillan officiating. The family would love to invite all to stay, visit and have a light lunch.
