Charles Richard Walker, 102, passed away on August 12, 2025 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on August 21, 1922 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico to Charlie Walker and Bessie Wooten Walker.
He had a full life serving as a family leader, Christadelphian minister, a rancher with one of the oldest brands in NM, and long-time member and often president of the following: NM Cattle Grower’s Association, Lincoln Forest Grazing Advisory Board, Otero County Cattleman’s Association, Otero County Grazing Advisory Board, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee, Cloudcroft School Board, Otero County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, and Lincoln Forest Allotment Owners Association. He also donated land and helped with the 16 Springs Fire Department.
He was honored as Land Conservationist of the Year, Outstanding Rancher, and Old Timer of the Year.
He loved God, his family and friends, Bible reading, cattle, horseback riding, hunting, trapping, and making music.
Survivors include his wife of 78 years, Thelma Wimsatt Walker; daughter, Kathleen Wells (husband Foye Wells); grandchildren Shawna Wells, Troy Wells (wife Dana Wells); great-grandchildren Moriah Wells (husband Lachie Cubbin), Caleb Martin, and Charlie Wells.
He was preceded in death by father, Charlie Walker; mother, Bessie Walker; two brothers, John and Herbert Lee; and his sister, Sara Jo Walker Patterson.
He always thanked God for his “way of life”. He is now asleep awaiting the return of Christ, the resurrection, and the restoration of the Kingdom of God on the earth.
He will be laid to rest in a private graveside service in the 16 Springs Canyon Cemetery.
All are welcome at a Celebration of Life ceremony to be held Saturday, August 30, at the Cloudcroft High School Gymnasium at 10:30 AM. A potluck will immediately follow in the Cloudcroft High School Commons Area.
Pallbearers include Tom McLaughlin, Joe Castelline, Shawna Wells, Moriah Wells, Caleb Martin, Charlie Wells.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pioneer Christadelphian Bible School, Judy Bouma Treasurer, 39 Cielo Montana, Alamogordo, NM 88310.
