A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Alamogordo Funeral Home with the Reverend Roy T. Messer, brother-in-law of John, officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at the Fort Stanton Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are being directed by Alamogordo Funeral Home.
John, affectionally known as Johnny, was born in Pine Valley, OK to James W. “Jim” and Lucy B. Robinson on April 24, 1930. A couple of years after graduating from Siuslaw High School in Florence, OR, John felt called to join the US Navy. During the Korean War, he spent four years on the USS Philippine Sea, reaching the rank of Machinist’s Mate Third Class. While serving in the Navy, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, John settled in Alamogordo, NM where he was blessed to get a job with Civil Service at Holloman Air Force Base spending 24 years working with the Fire and Rescue Department. On November 10, 1972, John married the love of his life, Emma Laura Messer. God blessed them with three children, Kimberley, Wesley, and James. They were also fortunate to foster many other children.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lucy; brothers, Elmer and Joe; sisters, Florence, Grace, Edith, Alice, and Alena; grandson, Josiah.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laura; daughter, Kimberley; sons, Wes and James (wife Michelle); sister, Glenna Cloin; grandchildren (his pride and joy), Jaysen, Jonathan, Jordan, Destanie, Desarae, and Donoven; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whom he dearly loved.
