Leo George, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, surrounded by his family. He is reunited with his beautiful wife and dancing partner, Arcilia. He was born March 4, 1942, in Tularosa to Leo George Sr. and Fidela Nuñez.
A lifelong resident of Tularosa, Leo was a devoted Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and “Bom-Po”, known for his heart of gold, steady presence, and unwavering love for his family. He proudly served as a Photo Optical Technician with various contractors at Holloman Air Force Base for 31 years—a role he approached with dedication, skill, and pride. Leo’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he had a fierce love for his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. His pride in their accomplishments, big or small, was immeasurable, and his support never wavered. An avid sports fan, Leo cheered faithfully for the Chicago Bears and Cubs through every season. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—a good game, a cold Coors, and time spent with those he loved most. He dedicated numerous hours to volunteering as a coach for youth in the community, focusing on basketball and baseball. And enjoyed cheering on his family over the years in the many sports and activities they participated in for the Tularosa Wildcats. Leo’s life reflected loyalty, kindness, and deep-rooted love. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, strength, and treasured memories. Always a “hello”, a handshake, or a hug anytime you encountered him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his three loving children: Yvonne Gutierrez (Ricky) of Tularosa, Cynthia Cairns (Glenn) of Tularosa, and Robert (Nina) of Las Cruces. He was a proud grandpa to Nicole, Ben, Amy (Brandon), Erica (Nash), Justin (Megan), Erin, Ryan, Jacob, Carli, and Natalie—and a deeply devoted “Bom-Po” to Josiah, Caleb, Kadence, Cayson, Cade, Cannon, Emma, Ella, Savannah,
Leona, Sophie, and Mya. Also surviving are two sisters, Teddy Peterson (Dick) of Las Vegas, NV, and Lupe Saladin (Jim) of Topeka, KS.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Arcilia; brother, Frankie; and his parents, Leo George Sr. & Fidela.
Rosary will be recited on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church, Tularosa, NM, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.
