John Melvin Edwards, 81 of Taylors South Carolina, was called home Thursday June 19th, 2025, to join his wife of 57 years, Stella Rose Edwards. He is survived by his children Martin Christopher Maynard-Edwards and partner Rene Sepulveda; John Michael Edwards and partner Cheryl Brown Edwards; Steven Adam Edwards and partner Ashley Marie Edwards; sister Linda Ramsey and Tom Edwards; and grandchildren, Christy Anderson, Alicia and partner Johnny Bullington; Lori and Blake Tucker; Charles Nathaniel Edwards; Ellaina Inez Stewart; Joshua Adam Edwards; and great grandchildren, Mariah Gray and Tristan Anderson, JJ Bullington and Jude Bullington. He was also survived by his 4-legged family members Buddy, Minny and Penny.
John was preceded in death by his wife and his sister Joyce and Stanley Cocker.
John was an avid athlete and animal lover who enjoyed softball, pickleball and basketball. John will be remembered for being a loving father, a mentor to many, a strong advocate for what is right. John's care for animals was felt by all that knew him, as he was often seen around town and at the park with his dog Sadie whom he is being buried with. His career took him across the nation in a variety of retail roles with Woolworth and T.G.& Y. mentoring and grooming retail leaders beginning in the 1960's in Vicksburg Mississippi. That mentorship continued for decades until his retirement in Greenville, South Carolina in the auto parts industry.
Family visitation is Wednesday June 25th at 9 am the Palmetto Mortuary, 1017 Mauldin Rd, Greenville, S.C. 29607.
