In Memory of Fred Dewayne Smith

Fred Dewayne Smith passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in Roswell, New Mexico on December 4, 1949, Dewayne was the beloved son of Frances Shepperd Smith and Fred Smith, both deceased.

Dewayne graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1968 and immediately joined the United States Navy, serving his time on the USS Samuel Gompers and the USS Cogswell. Completing his military service, Dewayne returned home and built a career as a commercial plumber, a profession that he dedicated himself to for 35 years.

Dewayne is survived by the "love of his life" of 40 years, Sandra Anderson and her children, Vicky, Michael, Michelle, Scott, and Kevin as well as their spouses and children; sisters, Joyce Powell, Mary Louise Kennedy (Bob), Norma Bonngard (Jim). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friends, Mr. and Mrs. Drew King. He is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Lynne Smith.

Dewayne was very active in life enjoying fishing, bowling, golfing, and the "Casino" any chance he had. Dewayne will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and devotion to his loved ones. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The Smith family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home. Services will be held at a later date.
