In Memory of Steve Christopher Chavez

Steve Christopher Chavez, 62, of Tularosa, New Mexico, passed away in his home on May 3, 2025. Born on July 23, 1962, in Ruidoso, NM, Steve spent his early childhood in San Jose, California before returning to Ruidoso in 1971. Around 1980, he settled in Tularosa, where he graduated from Tularosa High School in 1981 and remained a beloved member of the community.

In 1987, Steve met his spouse, Lisa, and together they welcomed their son, Stevie Ray Chavez, in 1989, his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.

Steve was a dedicated cook who served the Tularosa Senior Center for over 30 years. He also ran his own catering business, bringing great food and joy to countless local events and celebrations. He loved music, especially cranking up concert videos on his giant home speakers and had an unforgettable, infectious laugh. Steve was known for his big heart and his willingness to help anyone in need.

Steve is survived by his son, Stevie Ray Chavez; his brothers, Carlos Chavez (children: Chezara, Carlitos, Elena), Jerry Chavez (child: Quay), and Leo Chavez (wife: Dorthy, children: Truman and Corvin).

Steve was preceded in death by his spouse, Lisa; his father, Richard; and his mother, Anita Montoya.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the Tularosa Senior Center.

His love, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
