In Memory of Ralph Starr

In the early morning of April 4, 2025, after a long hard-fought battle with illness, Ralph Starr drifted peacefully to sleep with his loving wife, Phyllis, and his family by his side. He was born on August 16, 1945, in Bluefield, West Virginia to his father and mother, Ralph and Cecil Starr.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Phyllis Starr; his stepmother, Helen Kester; his loyal service dog, Marley and service dog in training, Rufus. Also surviving are many beloved co-workers, family and friends.

Waiting to greet Ralph in heaven is his father and mother, and stepfather, Ralph Gene Kester, who loving raised him after his biological father passed just six weeks after Ralph was born.

In High School in Freemont, Ohio, Ralph excelled in the sport of wrestling. He graduated in 1963.

In the 1970's, Ralph enjoyed Pro Rally Racing and developed lifelong friendships and connections thru his co-owned British Car repair business in Columbus, Ohio.

Later, Ralph furthered his education and attended National Camera school in Denver, CO. Upon completion of classes, he became an Instructor and Tech Writer with National Camera and Pentex.

Ralph then moved to Alamogordo in the early 1980's. Ralph began his career here working for various contracts at Holloman Air Force Base where he worked in Optics and at the High-Speed Test Track until his retirement in 2021.

In the 1990's, Ralph also became passionately involved in mono skiing. Through determination and hard work honing his skills, Ralph was invited to ski with The USA Disabled Ski Team.

Services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at St. Jude Parish Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited at 10:15 am with Mass celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will follow services at St. Jude Mission Columbarium. Reception will be held celebrating Ralph at St. Jude Parish Hall.

The Family of Ralph Starr would like to give a special recognition to the wonderful staff of Alamogordo Home Care and Hospice facility. Their compassionate care and dedication to caring for Ralph and his wife, Phyllis, will always be remembered.

The Starr family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
