Georgia Alta Moss, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother (GG), passed away on January 13, 2025, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was born in Crystal City, Texas on July 8, 1940, to Milton Vernon and Georgia Maggie (Routt) Smith, their only child.
Georgia lived in La Pryor, Texas, close to her relatives, for many years. She and her parents moved to different towns in Texas for work. They came to Alamogordo in 1957. In July of 1957 while working as a car hop at the Hepa Burger, Georgia met Mervin Moss, who was stationed at Holloman AFB. They were married on December 3, 1957.
Georgia was a dedicated military wife. She, Mervin, and their two daughters, Tina and Cindy, traveled to New Mexico, the Philippines, California, and Arizona with the Air Force. Wherever they were stationed, Georgia always made a wonderful home for her family.
Georgia loved dancing, especially as a teenager. After Mervin retired from the Air Force and they moved back to Alamogordo, bowling became a favorite hobby. She bowled on a league with two of her good friends for more than 40 years. She also enjoyed walking. Over the years, Georgia walked all over Alamogordo, rain or shine. Connecting with friends and neighbors by having them over for coffee was important to Georgia, it was her way of letting them know that she cared about them. More than anything, Georgia loved being with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Georgia and Mervin had a lot of fun traveling to many different places in the United States over the years. They especially enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Nevada and Laughlin.
Georgia is survived by Mervin, her husband of 67 years. They have two daughters, Tina O’Brien (husband Pat) of Alamogordo and Cindy Davis (husband Kerry) of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Lisa Varin (husband Anthony), Shelly Cervini (husband Chris), Kelly Davis, Kevin Davis, and Kaitlin Davis; two step grandchildren, Brian Davis (wife Heidi) and Lisa Davis; four great grandchildren, Levi Varin, Avery Varin, Brendyn Sides, and Lilliana Cervini. She is also survived by her very special cousin, Virginia Darnold (husband Paul and daughter Brandi) whom Georgia always considered a sister, as well as many other cousins.
The family would like to personally thank Radeana Dwyer and her staff at the Aristocrat for taking such good care of Georgia while she was there, as well as Donna, Kim, Charlie, and Lisa from Alamogordo Hospice for their care, concern, and support.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice in memory of Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held at Alamogordo Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at Monte Vista Cemetery.
