In Memory of Daniel James Smith

Daniel James Smith, aged 70, passed away on August 31, 2024, in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Born on May 24, 1954, Daniel lived a life marked by devotion to his family.

A proud veteran, Daniel served in the U.S. Navy, where he dedicated himself to serving his country with honor. His experiences aboard the aircraft carrier shaped his values and contributed to the strong person he was known to be. After his military service, he owned and operated construction companies in Phoenix, Arizona and then continued his career with Southwest Airlines, where he was a member of a local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters representing workers in the airline industry. He was respected for his commitment, work ethic and problem-solving abilities.

Above all, Daniel cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Sachet; son, Rocky Smith and daughter-in-law, Lindsay Yellen; sister, Patricia Bounds; brother, Thomas Smith and sister-in-law, Rachel Stankovits; granddaughters, Bailey Mukai and Alessandra Sachet; nieces, Brandy Bounds and Lily Smith. His family extends to Bryan, Melody and Bruce Bounds. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Horton and James Smith and brother-in-law, Toby Bounds.

Daniel’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The service will honor his legacy and cherish the memories he left with all who knew him. His family and friends will remember him as a loving and proud family man, whose memories will be treasured forever.
