In Memory of Daniel Emil August Schwebke

Daniel Emil August Schwebke, TSGT USAF Ret., passed Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home in El Paso, Texas due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Daniel was born on June 24, 1937, in West Allis, Wisconsin and was the fifth of ten children born to Irma and Emil Schwebke. At age 17, he joined the USAF serving first as a missile technician and then an aircraft maintainer. 

He served overseas in Korea and Thailand and was stationed stateside in California, Maine, New Mexico, Alaska, and Missouri. It was while in California that Daniel married his first wife Nancy in October of 1957. After 20 years, Daniel retired from the USAF and settled his family in Alamogordo, NM. He began his second career as the Geological Information Officer for Otero County until his retirement in 2001.

After Nancy’s passing in 1993, Daniel married his second wife, Eloisa, in March of 1997. They lived in Alamogordo among family and friends until Eloisa’s passing in 2023.

A longtime member of the Alamogordo Lions Club, Daniel was also a member of the Elks, Moose and Eagle’s lodges. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and later became a member of Grace United Methodist church where he enjoyed bible study, serving at Shared Table and singing in the church choir. Daniel and Eloisa were members of the Traveling Elks and NM Nomads and enjoyed RV traveling with their friends, as well as working on multiple community projects around the country.

Daniel was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Justine Russell and his second wife, Eloisa Josephina Otero. He is survived by his two sons, Russell Daniel of Brownwood, TX and Kevin-Sky of Alamogordo, NM; three stepchildren, Kim Chavez of Tularosa, NM, Sean Rowin of Anton Chico, NM, and Steven Rowin of Clermont, FL; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 E 1st Street with interment to follow at Monte Vista Cemetery, 1509 E 1st Street, in Alamogordo. Reception to follow at the Elks Lodge, 2290 Hamilton Road, in Alamogordo.

The Schwebke family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
