In Memory of Jonathan Burton

Jon passed away on July 9, 2024, in Alamogordo, NM. He was born February 9, 1949, to Gene and Vera Lee Burton. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1967. He attended New Mexico State University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He also earned a Mastor’s Degree from The Institute of Biblical Studies. Although a business owner, his heart was in full-time ministry where he served as a campus director with Campus Crusade for Christ, as well as a vital staff member on Dr. Bill Bright’s staff, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ.

Later in his life, Jon created his own Discipleship ministry, called “Ditto Ranch.” This ministry, trained pastors how to disciple their parishioners. Jon’s spiritual grandchildren were numerous. He shared Christ as a way of life, and over the years Jon‘s ministry grew exponentially throughout New Mexico and Montana. Jon was also an avid golfer and master fly fisherman.

His survivors include: his brother, Joe Burton, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, sister-in-law, Jeana Burton, nephew, Jared Burton, niece, Jeane’e Dahl, niece, Julienne Bunt, uncle, Terry Green, and uncle, Jerry Green.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Ethridge Burton, mother, Vera Lee Burton, grandfather, Lee E. Green, and grandmother, Vera Green.

The family greeted friends from 11 AM to 1 PM with a fellowship lunch honoring and sharing special memories of Jon. This was followed by a short memorial service at 1 PM. Both of these were held at First Baptist Church, 270 Country Club Drive in Ruidoso, New Mexico, on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

Dr. Todd Sullens of First Baptist Church Ruidoso will be conducting the Memorial Service.

Should family or friends desire, contributions may be made in Jon’s name to First Baptist Church, Ruidoso, New Mexico.
