In Memory of Angie Sandoval

Angie Sandoval, 83, was born on March 3, 1941, in Carrizozo, New Mexico. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and beloved dog, Mattie, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on July 22, 2024.

A proud graduate of New Mexico State University, Angie was the first in her family to earn a college degree. She taught first grade at Sierra Elementary in Alamogordo for 30 years and positively impacted hundreds of students’ lives during her time as an educator. Few things brought Angie as much joy as running into her former students and learning about their careers and life successes. Following her retirement, Angie volunteered in the Pink Lady Auxiliary at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center for over 15 years and delighted in taking pictures of newborn babies.

Angie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lou Sandoval, and her daughter, Catherine Ellison (Rex), of Alamogordo. She was a proud Mamaw to five grandchildren (Ryan Ellison, Matthew Sandoval, Sarah Williams, Tyler Sandoval, and Tres Sandoval), and five great-grandchildren (Kolton Sandoval, Oakley Sandoval, Sedona Sandoval, Tate Sandoval, and Demi Williams). Angie was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Garcia, and her beloved son, Matthew Sandoval (Kerry).

Services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church in Alamogordo where Angie was a faithful parishioner for over 50 years. The rosary will be led by her sister, Gloria Martinez, at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Angie’s family will host a celebration of life reception from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on the patio at the Heart of the Desert Pistachios and Wine located at 7288 U.S. Highway 54, Alamogordo, New Mexico, 88310.

In lieu of flowers, Angie’s family asks that donations be made in her name to either of her favorite charities, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
