It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Brandon Wade Atkins, 55, of Tularosa, NM on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Brandon was born on September 19, 1968, to Wade Atkins and Patsy Atkins-Barger in Las Cruces, NM. After he graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1986, he pursued an Associates of Arts from NMSU-A.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Olin and Virgina Harris, Charlie and Erma Atkins, and his faithful dog, Ruby. He is survived by his parents, Wade Atkins and Patsy Atkins-Barger; his daughters, Megan (RJ) Portillo and Cassie Atkins; sister, Charlotte (Larry) DuBois; nephew, Ryan DuBois; great-niece, Sophie; and grandchildren, Bailey, Brynleigh and Brodee.
Brandon was wholeheartedly a family man. Whether it be working on race cars and Friday Night Racing at Sertoma Speedway with Larry, cracking a joke with Ryan, hiking or riding bikes with Charlotte, gardening with his mom, or working with his dad, Brandon could always proudly be found spending time with his family.
There was nothing that Brandon loved more than being a father to his two daughters. He poured immeasurable love and devotion into his children’s lives. From teaching them to ride a bike, to supporting their extracurricular activities of sports or livestock shows, Brandon made sure that he was present for every milestone, ensuring his girls knew they were always loved and supported unconditionally in every single thing they did. After raising his girls, he found a new love in becoming a grandfather.
He would light up any time any one of his grandkids were around. Brandon was the best Gman to Bailey, Brynleigh and Brodee, and there was never a time when he wasn’t willing to throw the ball, rope the dummy, or simply play outside spending time with them. He admired them with such love and pride, it was never a question what his greatest joys in life were.
A celebration of life with reception to follow took place on June 22, 2024, at 6:00 pm at the Covered Arena, 51 Sioux Trail, Tularosa, NM 88352.
The Atkins family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
