In Memory of Kathleen Baca-Sanchez

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Beloved sister, Kathleen Baca Sanchez, who passed away on April 21st at the age of 76, at home, surrounded by her family.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Ismael and Bessie Sanchez her sister Gloria Marie Chavez, and her two nephews, Rogelio and Danois Calderon .

She's is survived by her siblings, Patricia Baca (Richard), Ishmael Sanchez, John Sanchez (Anna), Helen Sanchez, James Sanchez (Angela), Susan Solis (Ed), and Mark Sanchez. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, July 25 1947. She was the eldest of 9 children.

Following her graduation from Alamogordo High School, she attended the University of Albuquerque and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1969. She received a Bachelor of degree in education. She also received a Masters degree in Art in 1981 from the University of New Mexico. Kathleen also was fortunate to attend the University of Madrid in Madrid, Spain in the summer of 1972.This started her career as an educator and principal, in the Albuquerque school district, where she worked for over 30 years. Kathleen was an advocate for children’s rights and championing in children’s rights by involving the community in special education for children and being a foster parent. Kathleen’s journey touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God through her strong connection with her Catholic faith, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

After she retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools she created a private business for tutoring students at risk. She also, volunteered at Nativity Catholic Church, and also was an active member with The Altar Rosary Society and Bible Study group. She loved painting as she was an exceptional artist, gardening and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Kathleen will be dearly missed and always remembered. Our family is gratified knowing that she is at peace with our Heavenly Father.
