In Memory of John Dick Grisak

ohn Dick Grisak passed away on February 23, 2024, in Alamogordo, NM at the age of 93. He was born in Weed, NM on July 14, 1930, the son of Pete Grisak and Alma (Lewis) Grisak. John Dick grew up working, farming, and cowboying on the family ranch, this had a profound impact on how he lived his life. He loved livestock, hunting, fishing, guitar and fiddle playing, dancing, family, and telling stories about anything, especially growing up in the mountains.

John Dick graduated from Weed school and then went off to the Navy for four years. John Dick and Myra Lane married and had three children, John, Ronnie and Becky. He began plumbing for his father-in-law Rex Lane at Lane Plumbing. After leaving the plumbing business and managing projects around New Mexico, he managed Alamo Pipe and Supply for his father-in-law Rex Lane. John Dick started Grisak Plumbing in 1972 and Pay Less Plumbing in Lubbock, TX in 1976. In 1988, John Dick and Carolyn Coker were married and had many wonderful years, especially at their home in the Sacramento Mountains.

In 1990, John Dick joined his son Ronnie and daughter-in-law Kim Grisak at Dollar Boots and Jeans in Alamogordo. He enjoyed working the hat and boot department visiting with customers and lots of longtime friends. John Dick became a mentor and father figure to many of the girls at the store. He and son Ronnie worked side by side for 45 years, building and managing Dollar Boots and Jeans in Alamogordo, Boots and Jeans in Ruidoso, P.I. Bar Ranch in Sacramento, Advanced RV Storage in Alamogordo, and White Mountain Antler Co.

John Dick is survived by his sons, John Richard Grisak, Jr. of Santa Fe and Ronnie Grisak and wife Kim of Alamogordo; his daughter, Becky Kersey and husband Russell of DeKalb, TX; grandchildren, John Alan Holleman and wife Heather, Tyler Grisak and wife Jessica, Tanner Grisak, Amy Justice and husband Jake, Kayla Cline and husband Justin; 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Pete Grisak of High Rolls, Gracie Bickle of Hatch, Lynn Connerly of Mississippi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Grisak; his sisters, Rebecca Riley and Julia Parker.

John Dick, Papa to his grandchildren, touched so many lives, was loved dearly, and will forever be missed.

A Memorial Service for John Dick will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at The Worship Center with Pastor David Crispin officiating.

The Grisak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
