In Memory of Maria Eliud Salazar de Saldaña
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Maria Eliud Salazar de Saldaña, 82, went home to our Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Alamogordo. Maria was born on May 3, 1941, in Camargo, Chihuahua to stepfather Gilberto Garcia and Isabel Garcia.
Survivors include her children, Guadalupe Martinez (Pablo) of Alamogordo, Armando Saldaña (Heriberta) of Idaho, Leticia Gonzales (late David Gonzales) of Alamogordo, Elizabeth Saldaña-Guevara of Alamogordo, Catarina Mayorga of Albuquerque, Irma Montoya (late Franklin Montoya) of Alamogordo, Gilbert Saldaña (Kerri) of Alamogordo, Isidro (Chilo) Saldaña of Alamogordo; brother Santiago Garcia from Camargo, Chihuahua. Maria had 30 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Agustin P. Saldaña of 65 years of marriage; her parents, stepfather Gilberto Garcia and Isabel Garcia; daughter, Estella Saldaña; brother, Samuel Salazar; grandson, Aaron Mayorga; and great grandchild, Jesus Ivan Valenzuela.
Maria was a proud owner of Maria’s Mexican Foods for a long period of time. The restaurant was known for the burrito run, her famous masa and tamales. Maria opened her own restaurant in 1984 and was in business for 30 years serving the great community of Alamogordo and those passing by. During the holidays were the fondest moments, she had her entire family working the business hand making the masa and tamales.
Pallbearers include Armando Saldaña, Glberto Saldaña, Isidro (Chilo) Saldaña, Austin Saldaña, DavidJoe Gonzales, Geronimo Saldaña, Isidro (Tony) Saldaña, Amanda Montoya, Vanessa Chacon, Irene Mayorga, and Blanca Placencio.
Honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are as followed to celebrate the life of Maria Eliud Salazar de Saldaña.
Viewing will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Templo Eben-Ezer Asamblea Santa Pentecostes, 1002 Rose Avenue, Alamogordo, NM.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 E 1st Street, Alamogordo, NM.
Memorial Service will be at 12:00 pm, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Alamogordo Funeral Home with Graveside Service to follow at Monte Vista Cemetery, 1590 E. First Street, Alamogordo, NM. NO reception after burial.
