Fred Lewis Wood, 92, of Tularosa and lately domiciled in Carollton, Texas, completed his journey on December 29, 2023. He was born on September 20, 1931, to Henry Amnon Wood and Mary Ann Chiado. His passing was due from pancreatic cancer
Fred is preceded in death by his brother Charles Henry "Sonny" Wood.
He is survived by his sons, Ted, Tracy, and Tim, who reside in Texas and also survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Fred served in the Air Force and was associated with military organizations throughout his life. He worked at Holloman Air Force Base as a contractor at White Sands Proving Grounds.
In his free time, Fred enjoyed various hobbies. He was a private pilot and flight instructor, and also belonging to the Civil Air Patrol as a mission pilot.
He was also an accomplished fiddle player who won many fiddling contests and played with a number of local bands, including his cousin Ralph Wood. His early band, The Rainbow Ramblers, was based in Albuquerque and even recorded an album of the same name.
