Mary Frances (Fran) Jarrett, fondly known as Nanny to her grandchildren, passed away on January 12, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on February 24, 1936, in Canyon, Texas, the daughter of Sammy and Dorthea Schroeder Dodson.
Fran met her future husband, Lonnie Jarrett, while attending West Texas University, now known as West Texas A&M. They were married in 1957. Fran and Lonnie lived in Friona and Tulia, TX before moving to Clovis, NM in 1961, and settling in Alamogordo in 1968. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children started school. Fran worked as a kindergarten teacher in both Clovis and Alamogordo. In 1973, Fran started to work at the NMSU-A Townsend Library where she retired after 25 years. After retirement, she continued as a volunteer at the library for several years.
Fran loved to quilt and made many special quilts for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her hummingbirds, doing puzzles, and had an impressive frog collection! She made the best pecan pie, carrot cake, and delicious chocolate chip cookies. She was known for her beautiful smile and most say that "she was the sweetest lady ever".
Fran and Lonnie were married 63 wonderful years until his passing on March 8, 2020.
Fran is survived by her children, Kerry (Debbie) Jarrett of Alamogordo and Kim (Ronnie) Grisak of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Grisak of El Paso, TX, Tanner Grisak of Alamogordo, and Kolt (Jami) Jarrett of WSMR, NM; great grandchildren, Hayden and Karson Jarrett, and Elliot Grisak; niece, Gale Verheyden; nephew, Carl Seitz; and many other family members scattered across TX, MO and AR including a special niece, Mickey Gowler.
Fran was very happy at the Aristocrat Assisted Living for over 2 1/2 years. She leaves behind her best friend, Edna Conley, who also lives at the assisted living facility. The family would like to thank the staff at the Aristocrat, and Ryan and Donna from Alamogordo Hospice for their loving care.
As per Fran's request, a private graveside service will be held. Knowing that she is shining down on us as our Angel, gives us peace.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Lung Association in memory of Fran.
The Jarett/Grisak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
