Silver Edges Alamogordo in Defensive Battle at Silver City Tournament Friday Evening

Alamogordo N.M. Alamogordo High School’s boys soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Silver on Saturday in the opening match of the Silver City Round Robin Tournament at Ben Altimirano Soccer Complex.

The match remained scoreless through the first half, with both teams locked in a defensive struggle. The Tigers broke through in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead, but Silver answered back quickly after the intermission, equalizing in the 49th minute on a goal by Kyle Tamayo.

The shift in momentum proved costly for Alamogordo. Silver capitalized on the Tigers’ defensive lapses to score the match-winner and secure the 2-1 victory.

“It’s a tough loss in a tournament setting,” said Tigers head coach following the match. “We had our chances, and we competed hard, but we need to tighten up our defense and convert our opportunities.”

Tamayo’s goal kept the Tigers competitive throughout the second half, but Alamogordo couldn’t find the equalizer despite sustained pressure late in the match.

The loss drops Alamogordo to 0-1 in tournament play. The Tigers will look to bounce back quickly when they face Miyamura later today at 12:30 PM, seeking their first win of the tournament.
