WALMART RECALLS TOMATO BISQUE SOUP KITS OVER POTENTIAL ALLERGEN CONTAMINATION - AlamogordoTownNews.org

August 15, 2026 — Walmart has announced a voluntary recall of select batches of its Great Value Tomato Bisque Soup Kits due to the potential presence of undeclared milk allergens, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed today.

The affected soup kits, sold under the Great Value brand nationwide, may contain milk ingredients not identified on the product label, posing a serious risk to consumers with dairy allergies or lactose intolerance.

Product Details

The recalled products include:

• Product: Great Value Tomato Bisque Soup Kit

• Package Size: 20 oz boxes

• UPC Codes: 0-78742-51683-2 and 0-78742-51684-9

• Production Dates: June 1 – July 15, 2026

• Affected Stores: Walmart locations nationwide to include New Mexico

What Customers Should Do

Walmart is urging consumers who purchased the affected products to:

1. Stop consuming the product immediately

2. Return unopened boxes to any Walmart store for a full refund, no receipt required

3. Discard any opened packages

4. Contact the Walmart customer service hotline at 1-800-WALMART with questions

Consumers who have experienced allergic reactions after consuming the product are encouraged to consult their healthcare provider.

FDA Investigation

The FDA was notified of the recall after a consumer complaint reported milk residue in a product that carried no allergen warning. The agency has confirmed that investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the contamination in the manufacturing process.

“Consumer safety is our top priority,” said Dr. Margaret Chen, FDA Division Director for Food Safety. “We are working closely with Walmart and their suppliers to prevent similar incidents and ensure all affected products are removed from shelves.”

Company Statement

A Walmart spokesperson released the following statement: “We take food safety extremely seriously. We immediately launched an investigation when we learned of this issue and have initiated this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution. We are working with our supplier and the FDA to identify how this contamination occurred and to implement corrective measures.”

The company estimates approximately 47,000 units have been distributed nationwide through its retail locations and online grocery delivery services.

No Injuries Reported

As of August 15, 2026, Walmart and the FDA report no confirmed illnesses or injuries related to the recalled products.

Product Impact

This is the latest in a series of food safety recalls this year. Great Value, Walmart’s in-house brand, has faced two other recalls in 2026—one involving frozen vegetables and another concerning canned beans.
