Alamogordo, NM – February 9, 2026 – A busy weekend of high school basketball action across southern New Mexico delivered key district outcomes, with Mescalero Apache claiming convincing doubleheader victories over Cloudcroft, Tularosa extending their strong season against NMMI, and Centennial picking up wins over Alamogordo in both boys’ and girls’ contests.
Mescalero Apache Chiefs Defeat Cloudcroft Bears in Boys’ and Girls’ Action
In Mescalero, the Chiefs boys’ basketball team pulled away for a 71-59 victory over the Cloudcroft Bears. Landyn Hiles paced the Chiefs with a game-high 23 points, supported by Jason Wilson (14), Avin Yellowcloud (11), and Shywin Chaffins (10). The win improves Mescalero Apache to 9-13 overall and 3-1 in district play. The Chiefs next host Capitan on Thursday.
Cloudcroft falls to 9-12 overall and 1-3 in district. The Bears will look to bounce back when they host Mesilla Valley Christian on Tuesday.
The Lady Chiefs also dominated, defeating the Lady Bears 63-39. Laurdis Sundayman erupted for 32 points to lead Mescalero Apache, with Amaylia Smith adding 8 and Taylynn Ahidley contributing 6. The victory moves the Lady Chiefs to 8-14 overall and 3-1 in district; they travel to Capitan on Thursday.
Tristyn Housler topped the Lady Bears with 12 points, while Maitlyn Barnett and Marissa Romero each scored 8, and Alyssa Singer added 7. Cloudcroft drops to 7-12 overall and 2-2 in district ahead of hosting Mesilla Valley Christian on Tuesday.
Centennial Hawks Down Alamogordo Tigers
In girls’ action, the Centennial Hawks defeated the Alamogordo Lady Tigers 56-26. The loss drops Alamogordo to 7-15 overall and 0-6 in district play. The Lady Tigers next host Organ Mountain on Tuesday.
On the boys’ side, Centennial edged Alamogordo 61-55. Aaron Herrera led the Tigers with 17 points, Jaycob Ochoa added 14, and Will Bynum chipped in 9. The Tigers fall to 15-7 overall and 2-4 in district; they travel to Organ Mountain on Tuesday.
Tularosa Wildcats Edge NMMI Colts
Tularosa secured a 59-52 win over New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI). Jacoby Apachito led the Wildcats with 17 points, followed by Kameron Blazer (13), Cameron Holguin (10), and Joe Chavez (7). The victory boosts Tularosa to 19-3 overall and 2-0 in district. The Wildcats next play at Ruidoso on Tuesday.
Lady Tiger Powerlifter Olivia Morris Named Athlete of the Week
In other Tiger athletics news, Alamogordo High School’s Olivia Morris has been selected as the Tiger Athlete of the Week for her performance in powerlifting. Sponsored by Tularosa Basin Telephone Company/Tularosa Communications, Inc. and The Winners’ Circle, Morris earned the honor following strong showings in recent competitions, including a strong finish at the Alamogordo Classic earlier this season.
