ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico — The Alamogordo High School Tiger wrestling teams traveled to El Paso, Texas, over the weekend of January 16-17, 2026, to compete in the prestigious 47th Annual El Paso Bowie Invitational at Bowie High School. In a field packed with regional talent, the boys’ squad secured a solid 15th-place team finish, while the girls placed 25th.
The tournament highlighted several standout individual performances, particularly from the boys’ side, where multiple Tigers reached the podium or earned notable wins through tough brackets.
Boys’ Highlights
AJ Benitez at 120 pounds delivered one of the strongest showings, claiming third place with a resilient run. Benitez started strong with a pin over Luis Murgula (DaVinci) in 2:00, then fell 8-2 by decision to Alejandro Marin (Coronado) in the quarterfinals. He rebounded impressively in consolations, securing falls over Jesus Ramos (Bel Air) in 3:44, Ryan Lopez (Ysleta) in 2:25, and Alejandro Hernandez (Irvin) in 4:13 before claiming third via forfeit over Mark Alarcon (Santa Teresa) with a recorded 9-3 advantage.
Fynn Krafka at 113 pounds earned fourth place after a dominant early run. He notched a 9-2 decision over Nicholas Gutierrez (Del Valle), a 12-1 major over Abraham Ramirez (El Dorado), and a 9-1 major over Luis Villalobos (Jefferson). Krafka fell by pin in 4:32 to Prince Cruz (Irvin) in the semis and then dropped a 6-2 decision to Gutierrez in the third-place match.
Damien Montoya at 132 pounds finished fifth, highlighted by quick pins over Jonathan Rodarte (Austin) in 28 seconds and Sergio Perez (Santa Teresa) in 4:14. He lost by fall in the semis to Dhani James (El Paso) in 3:51 and in consolations to Eli Fuentes (Parkland) in 2:41, before securing fifth by forfeit.
Additional boys’ results:
• 106 pounds – Terrence Armijo: Pinned Santiago Ortega (El Paso) in 21 seconds to open, but fell by pin to Andrew Garcia (Parkland) in 1:20 in quarters. He added a pin over Arturo Sanchez (Bel Air) in 2:07 before a 47-second fall loss to Devon Dominguez (Burges).
• 190 pounds – Gaven Kizer: Dropped by falls to Ozzy Giron (Del Valle) in 1:21 and Xavier Sandoval (Americas) in 2:14.
• 175 pounds – Cameron Chavez: Lost by falls to Christian Soto (Hanks) in 3:18 and Joel Luna (Montwood) in 1:51.
• 126 pounds – Cody Phillips: Fell by tech fall (18-3 in 5:44) to Victor Ramirez-Munoz (Santa Teresa) and major decision (12-1) to David Marquez (Horizon).
Girls’ Performances
Alianna Rigales at 100 pounds opened with a 44-second pin over Vanzela Silva (Riverside) but lost by fall in 1:32 to Jubilee Rendon (Franklin) in quarters. In consolations, she pinned Alexis Williams (Parkland) in 2:11 before a 4:05 fall loss to Alicia Ponce (Chaparral).
Isabella Price-Aguila at 190 pounds fell by pins to Annalysia Vela Lewis (Chapin) in 1:36 in quarters and Kimberly De La Torre (Chaparral) in 1:49 in consolations.
