Early voting is now complete. Polls will reopen on Tuesday, November 4 from 7 am to 7 pm.
This is a local/municipal election. For some, there are very few choices on the ballot. If you live in Alamogordo, there are five individuals running to be your next mayor. As mayor of our city, that individual’s job is to represent all citizens regardless of affiliation. However, as unpartisan as it is supposed to be, many don’t subscribe to that idea/practice.
Voters need to look at the qualifications and history of the candidate to make an informed decision. Which candidate has done and continues to do the work involved in making our city the best?
No one wants to talk about politics. It has caused division within families and the end of many long-time friendships. When you look at what’s happening in today’s news, you have to shake your head and wonder how is this helping me and my family. Whatever happened to being able to debate and have meaningful discussions on topics that are important to us all? The recent “No Kings” protest exemplify the coming together of Americans from all sides. It’s in our united strength that we are strong!
In Alamogordo, many voters don’t think that their vote counts. Please let me EMPHASIZE. ALL VOTES COUNT!! Voters show up for the Presidential elections but choose to sit out the local elections feeling that they are less meaningful and unimportant. We must remember that our Constitution sets us aside from so many countries run by dictators. Our ancestors, military members, minorities, and women fought and died for our freedoms.
Make a difference. Be the change! We absolutely need all Otero County voters to get out to have your voices heard. Bring a friend or two. If you are sitting on an absentee ballot, you can still drop it off at the County Clerk’s Office or any of the polls. It may be too late to put it in the mail.
The midterm election will be in November 2026. We can use your help to get ready for that as well. We would like to invite you to be a part of our team. You can reach out to us at www.oteronmdems.org.

Let me get this straight.
Sunny, with a high of 92 and low of 68 degrees. Sunny in the morning, patchy rain nearby in the afternoon, sunny for the evening, clear overnight.
a reminder that other gray-headed folks may recall:
When and where was this "poll" taken? Was it just a select group of people? What happened to innocent until proven guilty in a court of law?
this article provides a good basic explanation of the structure available through the city charter for voters to take action in cases such as these.
That’s a fair question, and it’s important to clear this up.
A few basics:
NIMBY is alive and well in Alamogordo.
it's not just in alamo - our nation is suffering through an epidemic of NIMBYism these days. most citizens are aware that we are being taken for a ride - but they cannot determine precisely who the enemy is. so, the real enemy steps in and supplies a long list of the usual suspects, the folks who
The idea that the other person is to blame is a shell game that has been played by our “Overlords” for far longer than you and I have been alive.
As always Chris, excellent work. May I recommend that after reading your very informative article, that you may wish to go back in history here also. Say, 8 or so years and really unravel some knots that began in the city commision that led to where we are today
i'm in agreement with Daniel - well written, structural organized, and clearly stated. i would offer several well-known documentaries/movies as useful case studies to see this real-world process illustrated, all of them are available on numerous streaming services:
