It was a week of contrasting fortunes for Alamogordo High School’s soccer squads, as the Lady Tigers surged with offensive firepower before hitting a defensive wall, while the boys continued to battle through a rebuilding stretch against tough competition.
Boys Soccer: Tigers Fall to Lovington, Eye Bounce Back
Alamogordo’s boys team dropped to 3-6 on the season after a 3-1 loss to Lovington on Thursday. Despite the defeat, Jaxon Byars found the back of the net for the Tigers, assisted by Brennan Pannell, who continues to emerge as a key playmaker in the midfield.
The Tigers will look to regroup when they host Deming next Thursday. According to MaxPreps rankings, Alamogordo currently sits outside the top 10 in the state, ranked 11th, with Lovington trailing at 14th, making the loss a missed opportunity to climb the standings.
Girls Soccer: Lady Tigers Split Matches, Earn Tournament Honors
The Lady Tigers opened the week with a commanding 5-2 victory over Santa Fe’s Academy for Technology and The Classics. Mila Stevens led the charge with two goals, while Zoey Spataro, Ashley Spataro, and Paris Hill each added one to secure the win.
That momentum was short-lived, however, as Alamogordo fell 3-0 to Silver High School, dropping their record to 5-3-1. Despite the setback, the Lady Tigers earned recognition at their home tournament, with Mila Stevens and Nevaeh Boyle named to the All-Tournament Team for their standout performances.
Alamogordo will next host Roswell on Thursday, a matchup that could prove pivotal in district positioning. While the Lady Tigers are not currently listed in the top 10 of the state rankings, their offensive depth and midfield control suggest they’re a team to watch as the season progresses.
With district play looming and rankings in flux, both Alamogordo squads are entering a critical stretch. The boys aim to rebound and climb the standings, while the girls look to sharpen their consistency and capitalize on their attacking talent. One thing’s certain: the pitch in support on the homefront this football homecoming week will be buzzing with determination come Thursday.
