Alamogordo, New Mexico, a town of only about 32,000 has a vibrant community theater community. The cultural arts district is located in the New York Avenue MainStreet Business District anchored by Otero Arts on its fringe, at 1118 Indiana and 12th Street and the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts on the 1100 Block of New York Avenue. Multiple live performance artisan groups treat the public to a variety of performances not often seen in a small community in rural America.

The newest and most diverse theater troupe to be showcased in the district is the Rebel Music Theater group. Their base of operations for performances is Otero Arts located at 1118 Indiana Avenue. This troupe launched its inaugural performance in January and has been growing with sold out shows ever since. It’s next upcoming show planned for Otero Arts is titled "Decades In Harmony - A Musical Revue", running September 26-28, with a double showing on September 27.

Get ready to travel through time with Decades in Harmony, Rebel Music Theatre’s high-energy celebration of the greatest hits from the ’80s and earlier! This dynamic musical revue brings together the iconic sounds of classic rock, disco fever, soulful Motown, heartfelt ballads, and all the vintage vibes you love.

Packed with powerhouse vocals, dazzling choreography, and nostalgic flair, Decades in Harmony is a feel-good tribute to the music that defined generations.

The Alamogordo Music Theatre, Inc. (AMT), is the longest continuously performing community theater group. It is a non-profit community group who has presented exciting musical productions in Alamogordo for in excess of 50 years and has contributed in excess of $60,000 in scholarships to local young talent and $20,000 to the Flickinger Center since inception. Its performances are showcased at the Flickinger Center. They are hosting auditions for their upcoming performance next week, August 12th and 13th.

The Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo is another successful performance group with performances also at Flickinger.

The Children's Music Theater of Alamogordo was founded in 2018, under the direction of Heather Bash. This organization aims to provide young people with experience in live theater, dance, and music performance. They also emphasize learning about various aspects of theatrical performance, including set design, costuming, and backstage work, and encourage community participation and leadership development. Auditions for shows are typically open to children aged 7-17.

The Children's Theatre of Alamogordo has not yet released to us its fall 2025 performance schedule. Information about specific productions, dates, and ticket availability will be released on their website or with us.

These three troupes form the core of Alamogordo’s community theater scene. In addition there are performances showcased at NMSU Alamogordo and of course the Alamogordo Public School System has a vibrant plethora of student performances in the offering to those seeking the live performance arts.

Artist expression and live theater performances are important elements to an educated community rich in culture. There are very few small towns comparable in size to Alamogordo with such a deep cultural arts community. Turn off the television and unplug from your phone for a few hours and enjoy some of the talent that Alamogordo has to showcase with its vibrant community theater troupes. See you soon at the theater.
