US Border Patrol Update El Paso Sector Apprehensions

El Paso sector representing Otero County and the borderland of New Mexico’s Border Patrol area via the El Paso Sector now leads the nation in migrant encounters, with 265,037 as of 3/31/23. An increase of 134% compared to FY22 over the same time.

INTERAGENCY TEAMWORK at the FortHancock Station agents along with the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office disrupted a human smuggling scheme involving 3 vehicles. 19 migrants were found crammed inside the vehicles & 3 drivers were charged with the scheme.

ElPaso Sector agents utilize drone technology to locate & monitor #migrants #trekking across the most remote and treacherous terrain that would otherwise be difficult detect.

El Paso Sector agents apprehended three individuals with extensive criminal histories including sex assault and sexual battery of a minor. 

Stash house bust. The Ysleta Station Anti-Smuggling Unit, along with Texas Department of Public Safety foiled a smuggling scheme involving 51 smuggled migrants located inside a local residence. Subsequent interviews led to another stash house w/95 more migrants, totaling 146 migrants intercepted from Honduras, Guatemala, & El Salvador. That’s over 130 stash houses busted this fiscal year 2023 to date.

PARTNERSHIP at the El Paso Station helped with the interdiction teams responce to a call for assistance from Texas Department of Public Safety at a El Paso hotel. Agents ultimately discovered 58 migrants being escorted into the back of a moving truck. Migrants were from various foreign countries. This is the latest example of how criminal organizations place profit over the lives of vulnerable migrants.

This autonomous technology provides persistent surveillance and most importantly frees up agents to conduct immigration law enforcement responsibilities. ElPaso sector currently has 15 ASTs throughout the region.
