AlamogordoTownNews.com Expanded Partnership between Roadrunner Emporium & Tularosa Basin Museum
Roadrunner Emporium under the direction of Chris Edwards and Rene Sepulveda had spent the last year working closely with Josette Herrell of the Tularosa Basin Museum in researching the history of Roadrunner Emporium’s building located at 928 New York Avenue. Mrs. Herrell is an asset to this community for her dedication to research and assistance she and the staff of the museum has provided to the Roadrunner Emporium team.
The owners of Roadrunner Emporium have restored the downstairs safe and dated the creation of the doors dating back to 1892 crafted by Halls Safe Company and the upper level Art Deco style safe from the Mosler Safe Company that arrived on rail in January of 1900 at a cost then of $36,000.
The original First National Bank of Alamogordo opened its doors in February of 1900 with building hosting the bank and the Railroad Club.
The bank building later that decade also housed the original Alamogordo library and Banards in the wing of the building that now houses Blush Salon.
Later our building also hosted the Masonic Lodge on top as per the photo above.
With the efforts of Rene Sepulveda the downstairs face have been restored with the paint stripped to original and exposing the original First National Bank signage…
The Art Deco style display safe on the 3rd floor is restored…
Now thanks to Mrs. Josette Herrell and the Tularosa Basin Museum Roadrunner Emporium will receive on loan part of the original cashiers cage components for display with the banking vaults.
Where they will be put on display showcasing their history as a cashiers cage…
